Trattoria Mercatto, located at 220 Yonge St, Toronto, is a delightful Italian restaurant that consistently impresses diners with its authentic cuisine and inviting atmosphere. Patrons rave about the friendly service, with staff often going the extra mile to ensure a memorable experience. The interior boasts a charming design with a lovely patio, making it perfect for both casual outings and special occasions.
Guests frequently highlight signature dishes like the iron steak, praised for its flavor, and the calamari, noted for its perfect cooking and unique sauce. The menu’s standout offering is the Apollo alla Diavola, featuring crispy, juicy chicken paired expertly with creamy fregola, a dish many have dubbed the best they've ever had. The lasagna, with its 24 layers of pasta served vertically, offers a creative twist but has garnered mixed reviews regarding its flavor profile. However, the dessert options, especially the Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake and tiramisù, receive consistent accolades for their decadence.
Whether you are enjoying a meal with friends or celebrating a milestone, Trattoria Mercatto promises a delightful journey through the heart of Italy, complemented by attentive service and a vibrant ambiance. It’s a top recommendation for anyone seeking authentic Italian flavors in Toronto.

Came here for lunch and didn’t wait long for a table. Our server Brae was friendly and helpful. The iron steak dish was so good, I ate the entire thing. The calamari is perfectly cooked and yummy! I also loved the tiramisu, a delicious classic dessert. Highly recommend!

Been a while since I’ve visited, but the service at the bar top was excellent. The food was as good as previous visits, and the staff wasn’t afraid to make honest recommendations an extra touch on dessert!!

One of my favorite spots in Toronto! Been here multiple times throughout the years, and both the food and service have been consistently great. This time we ordered: 1. Calamari - most tender calamari I've ever had. Sauce was unique and flavorful too. 2. Apollo alla Diavola - best sh*t ever!!! The chicken is so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Flavor is spot on with enough heat that’s perfectly paired with the creamy fregola. 2025/6/1 Update: Came back for the Apollo alla Diavola — it still tasted just like I remembered, though the chicken was a bit drier this time. 3. Lasagna - different from your traditional lasagna as it is 24 layers of pasta served vertically and is separated from the meat sauce instead of layered. Although it is creative, I have to say that I prefer the traditional lasagna. The meat sauce also lacks some flavor and the lasagna is not really cheesy. Overall, this dish was not as impressive as their other pasta dishes I’ve had. 4. Lemon Olive Oil Cake - perfect way to end the meal! The lemon flavor was sour and refreshing.

Trattoria Mercatto I recently had the pleasure of dining at Trattoria Mercatto, a beautifully designed Italian restaurant that blends classic charm with a modern, inviting ambiance. The interior is tastefully decorated and features a lovely patio space, perfect for a relaxed yet elegant dining experience. An open bar adds to the vibrant atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both casual get-togethers and special evenings out. Their menu offers an impressive variety of authentic Italian dishes. I ordered the Pan-seared Lasagna — a rich and comforting combination of ricotta, mozzarella, besciamella, and ragu Bolognese — and the Pollo alla Diavola, featuring perfectly spiced chicken served with creamy fregola, pancetta, and kale. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, reflecting a high standard of fine dining. To accompany the meal, I enjoyed a glass of red wine that paired seamlessly with the flavors of the evening. For dessert, I indulged in the Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake — a decadent treat served with sponge toffee, Fior Gelato, Bing cherries, and almonds. It was the perfect sweet finish to an exceptional meal. The service was outstanding throughout; the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. In summary, Trattoria Mercatto offers a truly memorable dining experience — delicious cuisine, elegant surroundings, and top-notch service. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Italian flavors in a sophisticated setting.
